Nämndemän är vanliga medborgare som utses av kommun- eller regionfullmäktige för några år i taget. De sitter med i vissa mål i till exempel tingsrätt och förvaltningsrätt och är med och dömer.
Lay judges are ordinary citizens appointed by the municipal or regional assembly for a period of some years. They sit in certain cases, for example in district courts and administrative courts, and take part in the judgment.
